Moroccan feast in San Francisco? You bet. Chef Mourad Lahlou already has the Aziza institution under his belt, and now comes his new signature restaurant. Salads, oysters, lamb shoulder and couscous come together in a creative, anything-but-classic dish, with a 150$ tasting menu option if you're feeling generous.

Seafood was never more desirable. This small and intimate place just opened in the Mission, and the buzz is already going strong. The grilled octopus dish is a must, and the creative jowl ham is an Instagram favorite. The dishes are not too big, but the thing here is humorous, creative dishes for the real foodies - so make sure you snack beforehand.

Al's Place

Self-described as a 'newish' deli, this funky place serves anything from good old pastrami sandwiches to gourmet hot dogs with ethnic twists on the classics. Adam Mesnick, the mastermind, enjoys mixing old and new and creating comforting, yet refreshing Jewish delicacies.

Rye Project

Tucked away in a semi-industrial area by At&T park, this new parlor of decadence is perfect for a late-night bite. The chef is obsessed with offal and sweetbreads, as well as meats in general - everything on the menu is carnivore-friendly. Sit by the bar and enjoy the rustic feel and the sexy atmosphere.

Cockscomb

Tapping into the trendy phenomena of the permanent pop-up, the Pink Zebra is hiding within the old and the decidedly un-trendy Tao Yin restaurant. The creative, inexpensive menu flirts with the East and throws together togarashi, chorizo, bacon and dashi, resulting in colorful, artistic plates. Book ahead, since the Zebra is a hot ticket.

The most talked-about new place in town comes from the creators of State Bird Provisions, another hit. Dishes read like poetry – ' local kiwi with super-fresh ricotta, almonds & pickled sunchokes', ‘treasure chest’ of fermented sausage, trout quenelles' – and served to the center of the table, for all to taste and nibble. Pick 6, and pay 65$ per person - fit for a celebration or a foodie adventure.

The Progress

A recent addition to the local food scene, Beso features a tapas menu, designed to order in abundance and share. Toast points with delicious condiments, salads and charcuterie are reasonably priced and allow for a colorful, diverse shared meal. A welcome addition to the Castro neighborhood.

Opened not too long ago at a historic building at the Presidio and honoring the Spanish side of San Francisco, this stylish restaurant is the opportunity to splurge. The menu is peppered with Manchego, sardines and other Spanish gems, and you must try the sweet churros, if nothing else.

The Comissary

Climb again, this time the atmospheric Lincoln boulevard and El Camino Del Mar, up to the Presidio-Sea Cliff neighborhoods. You'll feel like in another era, surrounded by historic buildings and mansions. The legion, a historic landmark and museum, now presenting the must-see High Fashion exhibition, is a sight of marvel and greatness - and the views of the Golden Gate bridge, from a completely unexpected angle, are priceless.
