Remember Mad Men, Season 4, when Nurse Phoebe is decorating the X-mas tree and mocking Don "Where do you work? The White Horse Tavern"? No need to explain this joke to a New Yorker! This place is iconic – in the 1950s its patrons were Bob Dylan, Jim Morrison and Jack Kerouac who was repeatedly kicked out for misbehaving, so somebody even wrote Jack Go Home on the wall. The writer lived right across the street – at the corner of West 11th Street. And Gene Raskin sang in his hit "Once upon a time there was a tavern" it's about White Horse.
