Since the 1600s The Anchor has been located at 34 Park Street not far from Shakespeare Globe Theater, so that it can visited at the same time as the theater and Tate Modern gallery. From this pub a famous diarist Samuel Pepys watched the Great Fire of 1666, after successful crossing the Thames on a boat. In Shakespeare's times The Anchor was a centerpiece of the theatrical district, where the actors from the Globe and several other theaters, like The Swan and The Rose, were hanging out. Over the time, close to the original pub the owners had attached a few other bars with the same title, and in 2008 it was renovated, but with the certain imagination: sitting at the sundeck and overlooking the Thames, you can still feel like Samuel Pepys.
