Barcelona Cathedral and its Inner Garden

Barcelona, Spain

Ksu Zavyalova

The Barcelona Cathedral was being constructed from the 13th to 20th century. After exploring the interiors check out its Gothic garden – a treasure trove of legends. One of them is quite sad, telling the story of Prince Ramón Berenguer I and his beloved wife Almodis, who was killed by the prince’s son from his first marriage. Their tombs stand next to each other at the entrance to the cathedral. The second story is a tragic one about the patron of the city – Saint Eulalia of Barcelona, a martyr who faced violent death for her faith. In her honor the garden is home to 13 geese – the girl was 13 when she was tortured to death.
