This major hub of Russian art has several permanent exhibitions – for contemporary Russian art go to the Marble Palace, showcasing not only Russian painters and sculptors (an exception for this museum) but those anyhow related or inspired by the country. The northern wing is home to the Ludwig collection of Soviet non-conformists as part of contemporary avant-garde movement. And this spring the Russian Museum hosted the second Biennale of trendy Russian photographers.
