Monrepos Park

Saint Petersburg, Russia

Yana

The park's name – "my rest" – was given by Prince of Württemberg and has set the place’s vibe from the very beginning. Monrepos’ next owner was the president of the St Petersburg Academy of Sciences Ludwig Heinrich von Nicolai who turned the park into what we see today. Don't expect neat lawns and paths – it's not Peterhof. Here you will find the Island of dead and four meter boulders, where you can pick blueberry and get lost. Just look at those names – the Ludwigstein Chapel, falsch sanctuary, Neptune Shrine, Hermit’s Hut, the Apocalypse and other Byronic stuff. Though in reality it's not that poetic the pure beauty of Karel nature will be a reward.
In theory picnics are forbidden (that's what the signs say ) but practically nobody cares . So take some hot stuff in a tumbler, buy some apples from local old vendors and feel the reflective mood of a Northern poet.
