Ksenia Kandalintseva
This notorious house got its spooky name in the 20th century as in 1920-1940 it was home to the Military Collegium of the Soviet Supreme Court. In the period of the most severe purges of 1936-38 its members sentenced over 30,000 people to death (among the executed were writer Isaac Babel, theater director Meyerhold and prominent Bolshevik politician Bukharin). However, some say the place where the executions were carried out was different. Now the building stands empty - in 2013 Moscow Mayor Sobyanin offered to open a cafe and hotel here.
