Hotel National

Moscow, Russia

Ksenia Kandalintseva

In the 19th century it was an affordable residential neighborhood but in 1901 architect Ivanov was offered to construct something extraordinary and extravagant. In a couple of years the corner of Tverskaya and Mokhovaya Street saw a posh eclectic building – a cutting-edge hotel National with central heating, elevators, telephones and bathtubs in the rooms. In the Soviet times it was the First Soviet House but in 1932 the hotel returned. Today it's one of the best luxury hotels with fancy suites overlooking the Kremlin where heads of states and celebrities love to stay.
