Photohouse shop practically serves as a gallery. It was founded in 1940 by a photographer Rudy Weissenstein and boasts enormous collection of early Israeli photos of taken in 1936-1960-s that document the country’s history for more than quarter of a century. It is hard to believe, but it is all due to the efforts of one man: mr. Weissenstein used to work for country leaders, the UN, Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra, and also as an official photographer at the ceremony of declaration of the Israeli state. A moving documentary filmed in 2011 depicting the history of this family shop was acclaimed at many film festivals. Inside the shop you can take a look at the country’s past, buy some postcards and talk to the grandson of the famous photographer who works here.
