Well, beach is a strong word. In case your imagination makes a picture of young ladies in deck chairs and old ladies with kids hiding under parasols from heating Icelandic sun – forget about it. The beach is open only three months in a year. The gated water territory is artificially heated, but still you will hardly see anybody swimming. Mostly people prefer spending time in small pools with hot water. Despite some insolvency as a beach, Nauthólsvík is a very beautiful and calm place. If you decide to walk to Öskjuhlíð, definitely reach the beach, even if the weather will not be that good (and it most likely won’t). If you get cold – spoil yourself with a cup of hot chocolate from a small bistro Nauthóll that is just one step from the beach.
