Kick off the Christmas season at Parque do Cantagalo in Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas. Here you will find the Guinness record holder for the largest floating Christmas tree in the world. The tree (Árvore de Natal) is enormous. The star alone that decorates the top of the tree is eighteen meters tall and weighs 2.5 tons. This year, the tree’s lights are inspired by the theme of “Um Natal de Luz” (A Christmas Light). They transform through four stages, beginning with starlight then sunlight, moonlight and finishing with Christmas lights. The tree will make its rounds in the Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas throughout the holiday season until January 6th.
