Imaginarium

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Doni Clemons

As the name suggests, the Imaginarium boutiques are troves of imaginative and colorful finds. They are great shops to find unique and modern items made by Brazilian designers. The stores were created by an architect and a doctor in the 1990s, and now they have 160 stores all around Brazil. You will notice their trademark, black and white awning right away. Some of their inventory feels japanese-style quirky, like their brightly colored dolls, t-shirts, and backpacks. It's also a great stop to pick up a gift for the infamous "person who has everything." But they also have unconventional items for those looking for something for the home like mugs with humorous messages, Vespa pizza cutters, and dynamite stick alarm clocks. Great finds as souvenirs are items like their sleek white lamp in the shape of Cristo Redentor or their cool stationary, with cards in Portuguese.
